Job description
A venture-backed consumer social company building real-world, in-person experiences is hiring a Backend Engineer to join a small, elite engineering team. You will build the infrastructure behind hundreds of live experiences a month, take systems from zero to scale, and report directly to the co-founder/CTO.
What you'll do
- Build the backend for a new concierge product: scraping, caching, and parsing real-world data to match members' tastes end to end
- Design data models and APIs for a self-hosted event tool so members can host within their communities
- Set up backend infrastructure for voice and video data collection to improve matching models
- Improve internal automations and tooling, including payment and subscription flows
- Make architecture and infrastructure decisions to keep the stack performant as the product scales
Compensation
- $175,000 to $250,000 base, plus competitive equity
Location
On-site five days a week in New York City.
Requirements
- 1+ years as a backend engineer (early-career welcome with exceptional signals)
- Production backend experience in Python (FastAPI) or a comparable language, with real PostgreSQL depth
- Experience on core systems rather than only product surfaces
- Exceptional problem-solving and mental sharpness
- Comfortable with live coding and a multi-hour collaborative build session
Tech stack: Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Stripe, REST APIs.
